Description: This course is designed for the fellowship-trained
clinician, or for the advanced clinician with comparable training in Gr
V mobilization. This is an intermediate level Gr V mobilization course.
The applicant must have working knowledge of the indications and
contraindications for the use of Gr V mobilization in patient care.
Participants will review Gr V mobilization techniques for the spine,
pelvis and peripheral joints common to fellowship training, as well as
learn additional techniques. Attention will be given to refinement of
handling skills for successful application of techniques. There will be
case study analysis highlighting appropriate integration of Grade V
techniques in patient care.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to advance and
perfect skills in the application of Grade V mobilization for effective
management of musculoskeletal disorders.
Course Objectives:
The participant will be able to determine appropriate technique
selection, develop an intervention plan and progress grade V
mobilization interventions based on the patient’s clinical presentation.
The participant will be refine handling skills in the application of
peripheral and spinal Grade V mobilization techniques, taking into
consideration tissues and structures involved, and force/speed factors
for successful implementation.
The participant will be able to identify when Grade V mobilization
techniques are contraindicated and develop alternative interventions for
patient management.
PREREQUISITE. Fellowship training or comparable experience with
Grade V mobilization such as completion of the NAIOMT level IV Advanced
Spinal Techniques or Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles and West Los Angeles
Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Fellowship.

About the Instructor:
Wayne received his Master of Science in Health Education at San
Francisco State University. He received his Graduate Diploma in
Manipulative Therapy from the Curtin University, Perth, Western
Australia, Australia; as well as a certificate from the three month
post-graduate curriculum in PNF at the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation
Center, Vallejo, California. Presently a clinical orthopaedic specialist
at Kaiser Oakland Medical Center, he is also a clinical faculty member
for the Kaiser Permanente Physical Therapy Fellowship Program in
Advanced Orthopedic Manual Therapy, Hayward, California. He has taught
numerous short-term courses in the U.S., Australia, Brazil, and Europe
emphasizing manipulative therapy, motor control and integration of each
into the home program, incorporating both research-based and clinical
evidence.
